How Long Does It Take To Get To Disney World
Visiting the most magical place on Earth can be a dream come true. Whether it's your first time or your hundredth journey down Space Mountain, there's always something new to discover. Disney World will always keep you busy.
But just because you're experiencing an epic vacation, it doesn't give you license to just do whatever you want. Certain behaviors could get you kicked out of the park, while others might just earn you a few sneers from fellow vacationers. Ahead, check out the most embarrassing things you should never do at Disney World.
1. Wear uncomfortable shoes
Seems like a no-brainer, right? But you'd be surprised how many ladies wind up hobbling around in heels while the guys get giant blisters from their cheap sandals.
Your Disney vacation will include more walking in a single day than you've probably done in the last six months combined. Be sure to wear the most comfortable sneakers you can find and not worry about fashion.
Next: Don't wear this type of outfit to the park, or you'll get kicked out.
2. Dress up like a character (if you're an adult)
If you're over the age of 14, you're not allowed to arrive at Disney World in full costume. This rule helps keep other guests from getting confused about who the "real" characters are. Plus, why would you want to stop to sign autographs every five minutes?
Next: It's tempting, but don't this one thing.
3. Jump the line
Long lines are the worst. Still, no matter how much you hate waiting, cutting in line (which includes having someone hold your spot while you go get a hot dog) is considered the height of rudeness and won't earn you any friends amongst fellow park goers.
Do yourself a favor and get a FastPass ahead of time if you hate waiting. Otherwise, download games on your phone ahead of time or even strike up a conversation with a stranger to pass the time.
Next: Never go during this time.
4. Visit during a holiday
Like grocery shopping on a Saturday, visiting Disney during major holidays when everyone has time off from work can be disastrous. You'll likely have to skip your favorite rides thanks to long lines and probably won't be able to get into the restaurant you really wanted to try.
Instead, plan your trip right before or after the busy season when everything has calmed down.
Next: Don't miss out on the fun.
5. Oversleep
You just paid thousands of dollars for an amazing vacation — now is not the time for sleeping. Order a double shot of espresso if you're not a morning person and get to the park right when it opens to maximize enjoyment.
Next: Pay attention to this before heading to the park.
6. Ignore the weather forecast
You'll be sorry you forgot that nerdy poncho when the sunny skies turn dark right after lunchtime. Be prepared for surprise thundershowers or even wet rides like Splash Mountain. Bringing your own poncho will save you big bucks since you won't have to purchase one at the gift shop.
Next: Don't try to get away with breaking this rule.
7. Sneak in banned items
Think of Disney World like the airport, but possibly worse. There's no way you'll be able to slip that pocket knife or selfie stick past the security guards — so don't even try. Look up the rules before you go and be sure to follow them.
Next: This detail shouldn't be overlooked.
8. Skip sunscreen
Florida is hot and sunny. The last thing you need on the first day of vacation? A painful sunburn. Lather up on sunscreen and reapply generously throughout the day.
Next: Don't believe the hype about this thing.
9. Book overhyped restaurants
Sure, Disney insiders insist that you must eat at California Grill. Unfortunately, every Disney visitor is given the same advice, meaning you'll be stressed out trying to get a reservation. Most of the food at Disney is good, so go ahead and try something less popular to save your sanity.
Next: Allow enough time to do this.
10. Overschedule your trip
Getting up early is important, but trying to cram too many activities into one day will just make your whole trip miserable. Be realistic about what you can and cannot accomplish in the time you're at Disney World. Veteran Disney World vacationers even work in a non-park day to just relax in the hotel pool.
You won't be able to experience everything — but that's just an excuse to visit again!
